The Batman Movie Massacre

I don’t live in Aurora, but I do live close to there and know the theater that this all took place at. My thoughts go out to everyone who has been affected by this tragedy, and I’m sickened to hear that another small bit of humanity has been chipped away.

I mean, a six-year-old girl was killed. At the movies.

It’s just not fair.

If you’re not aware of what happened, here’s a link.

For everyone going to see The Dark Knight Rises or any other film this weekend, I hope you stay safe and are able to enjoy the experience.

Gotye never sounded so truthful.

star wars/affiliates

So I finished Return of the Jedi yesterday, and I may have teared up a bit. Maybe.

Overall, I’m really happy that I’ve now seen all of the movies in this wonderful film series. George Lucas did a kick-ass job with the original trilogy, and I don’t really hate the prequel movies as much since I know the end result is so awesome. (Kinda like the Harry Potter film series. Great as a whole, even if there’s certain films THAT SHALL NOT BE NAMED that I don’t care for.) I’m learning not to beat myself up too hard over not having seen these films before this year, because 1) that’d be going against the point of this blog, and 2) it doesn’t matter when I saw the films, but that I’ve seen them and enjoyed them at some point in my life. That’s what’s important! And honestly, I don’t think I would’ve truly appreciated them had I watched them all the way through when I was younger. (Up until now I’d only seen bits and pieces of the original trilogy and The Phantom Menace.)

I will say, it was extremely jarring seeing Hayden Christensen appear at the very end of Return of the Jedi, and even though I understand why they wanted to tie everything back in with the prequel trilogy…it just didn’t feel right. When discussing it with The Boyfriend, he made a great point that I wholeheartedly agree with: they should’ve left the original actor in, because it would’ve represented how Anakin would’ve aged had he not been corrupted by the dark side. Having young Anakin there was just really off-putting in an otherwise amazing ending.

On a different note, I wanted to draw your attention to my lovely links/affiliates page. These are blogs that have affiliated with me, or who don’t know my own blog exists but I like theirs a lot. You should probably check them out, because they’re all nerdy and awesome and I want to show them a little love today. :)

Thanks again for reading and showing support for my little blog. I truly appreciate every page view, and don’t ever be afraid to comment! I’d love to hear from all of you!

star wars/scott pilgrim

*EDIT: Yes, I know referred to Han Solo as “Hans.” IT’S BEEN A LONG WEEK, OKAY? xD

I finally watched Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and all of the critics who wrote up great reviews when it first opened in theaters were right: I’m definitely kicking myself for not having seen this movie in theaters when I had the chance. I’m sure it would’ve looked AMAZING on the big screen. Still, it was a wonderful movie that was so visually delicious I could’ve eaten it up. I’d heard that some people weren’t into the ending — that it wasn’t very realistic — but I thought both Scott and Ramona had learned what they needed (for example, “Scott has gained the power of SELF-RESPECT!”) in order to have a stable and successful relationship with each other. Sometimes endings can be sweet and realistic, though it’s usually a difficult feat to pull off in general. I honestly with more movies were made like this, because it had me within the first five minutes.

Oh, and I want the soundtrack. Really bad. iTunes account, Y U NO FULL OF MONEY??

Also, I have now seen both Episode IV: A New Hope and Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. So far I love R2-D2 more than everyone else, which usually happens to me while watching movies. For example, when watching The Boyfriend’s favorite movie, Alien, I honestly only cared if the cat made it out alive. No, Sigourney Weaver, I don’t care if you make it out alive. But that cat of yours had better survive or I will cut someone. I also may or may not continually laugh out loud at how constantly hilarious C-3PO and R2-D2’s friendship is.

Hans Han/Leia are absolutely killing me — it hurts so good. There’s multiple reasons why I love them more than Anakin/Padme, the main one being that the latter pairing drove me crazy with their sappy puppy-eyes and very awkward and staged interaction; at least, that’s how it came off to me. Sadly, their “relationship” was a big reason why I had trouble enjoying the prequel movies, however, I must take this opportunity to thank Ewan McGregor for making it all worth it. Ah well, I’m loving the original trilogy so far and I’m still glad I watched all of the movies in order.

College has started up again, and while procrastination is always fun I’m not going to try and stick to a posting schedule this semester. Just think of it as getting extra-long blog posts, instead of mini-updates. I wish those of you who are also back in school a successful semester/year/etc., and I hope those of you who are still on vacation or out of school altogether suffer miserably for your crimes are enjoying yourselves!

See you soon! :)

general update

Oh, hey there! Yeah, I took a brief hiatus for the summer because, well…it’s more fun to blog when you’re procrastinating. Not when you’re spending all of your free time having fun, and I didn’t want people to think I’d forgotten about my lovely little project here since I’d really only been reblogging stuff. Still, I’m (tentatively) back — we’ll see how crazy this upcoming semester gets. ;)

So, updates on all of the fun nerdy things I’ve been up to this summer!:

pottermore I finally got to cross some things off of my nerdy bucket list this summer, and this is one of them: be first in line for a geeky/nerdy event! Okay, maybe I wasn’t standing in an actual line, but I am one of the lucky one million fans who get to beta test J.K. Rowling’s new website Pottermore. However, once beta testing starts it’s against Pottermore’s Terms & Services to screencap and post anything about the site, so updates on that may be on hold until the site opens to all in October 2011. I don’t want to risk losing my beta account!

wizard rock I also was able to cross off my bucket list goal of attending five wizard rock concerts! Of course, I’ll continue to try and see any wizard rock band that plays out here, but five seemed like a good number at the time. The Boyfriend was a trooper and went with me to see not only Harry and the Potters, but also The Contour featuring various nerdy/wizard rock musicians from YouTube. It was a blast!

magic: the gathering Sadly, still not many updates here. I bought a booster pack not too long ago, though I still need to go through my deck and see if anything I got from it will fit in well with my red/blue deck.

lego harry potter: years 1-4 While waiting for Pottermore beta spots to open, I started playing this again after quite a long absence. I’ve currently made my way through all of the story modes, and am now going back and free playing each level to snag all of the bonus features. I’ve also found all of the bonus features within Hogwarts itself, so I’m currently sitting at 81.7% completion. :)

renaissance faire I attended my very first Ren Faire with The Boyfriend and various accomplices, which was a ton of fun (even if walking around in the heat wasn’t). We didn’t dress up for the occasion, but I did get to ride a camel!

star wars The Boyfriend and I started watching the prequel trilogy about a week ago, and I’ll let you all know my thoughts on that in a separate post. We’re now ready to start the original trilogy, so that’s another bucket list item I’ll be able to cross off soon!

I’m still fixing up my nerdy/geeky bucket list, and certain list items will change as I start to complete them (e.g., “Play World of Warcraft” might change into “Reach level 10 in World of Warcraft” once I actually do start playing). So make sure you keep checking that out to see how I’m doing, and feel free to suggest anything else I should add to the list! I’m always looking for suggestions. :)

I actually gained some followers during my brief hiatus (whut?), so…hi new readers! Thanks for following, and I hope you’ll stick around as I continue my journey into the depths of geekdom!
